STYLE WATCH: MICKEY MOUSE-- Fashion Through a Pop Icon

Cover Photo

Just two months ago, the world's most famous and favorite mouse turned 90. Who would've thought that this anthromorphic mouse created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks back in 1928 will become one of the most celebrated and recognizable pop icons in history? Mickey Mouse indeed came a long way-- from his first appearance in the animated Steamboat Willie to the entertainment empire it has transformed into, while and still touching the hearts and minds of children and adults alike throughout the years.

Last year alone, if you have noticed, fashion brands like Lacoste, Rag & Bone, Les Petits Jouers, Vans to fashion chains like Zara and Forever 21, to name a few, have collaborated with Disney to celebrate the pop icon's 90th birthday.

Also, to commemorate Mickey's birthday, Disney opened a pop museum last November 2018 in New York called, Mickey: The True Original Exhibition The museum celebrates 90 years of Mickey Mouse’s influence on art and pop culture. I had the opportunity to go with my niece and visit this immersive experience inspired by Mickey’s status as a ‘true original’ and his consistent impact on the arts and creativity in all its forms. We had the chance to explore the 16,000 square-foot exhibition featuring both historic and contemporary work from renowned artists.

Below are pictures of some of the exhibits that we have taken, posed and goofed around on:

The pop museum is only open until February so we are very lucky to be able to witness these art exhibits. Truly, Mickey Mouse have inspired and impacted these renowned and talented artists and expressed it through their works of art.

In addition, showcased below are three different Mickey Mouse- inspired fashion edits that I have carefully curated and selected to mix and match from purchases at Zara, Forever 21 and accessories from The Disney Store. I hope you will enjoy the looks as much I enjoyed wearing and showcasing them.
